Lisa Gakyo Schaewe
Gakyo brings over 30 years of meditation practice and 20 years clinical of experience to her work at Red Mountain. She has held positions as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Certified Registered Art Therapist with private and public mental health agencies including work in residential and intensive outpatient settings before establishing a private practice. Modalities she utilized included EMDR, Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. She was a long time meditation instructor for students in graduate psychology programs at Naropa University and held adjunct faculty positions in Naropa’sTranspersonal Counseling and Art Therapy programs and in the Integrative Health Professions program at Red Rocks Comminity College.
She teaches Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction classes in the community and offers workshops integrating art and creative process with mindfulness practice. In her volunteer work with the American Red Cross, she provides disaster mental health support and facilitates mindfulness and resiliency trainings for active military, vets, their families and caregivers with the Services to the Armed Forces program.
She is a senior student and practice leader in the White Plum Zen lineage with Eon Zen Center in Boulder. Since retiring from her career as a therapist she has been dedicating her time to being an artist.
