Residential Treatment Programs for Teens: Mindfulness to Improve Mental Health
Treating Trauma Using Mindfulness Techniques
At Red Mountain Colorado, our residential treatment program for teens uses a combination of mindfulness and traditional therapy to help teens heal from trauma and improve their mental health. For teens who need treatment for depression, anxiety, or other emotional and behavioral issues, meditation and mindfulness can help instill healthy coping skills. If your child is also suffering from a dual-diagnosis, Red Mountain Colorado can help address co-occuring issues.
Mindfulness is the cornerstone of our residential treatment center for teens. We believe through teaching students healthy habits that they can implement themselves, we can help them gain long term skills to face life’s challenges. Our mindfulness programming includes:
- Guided Group Meditation
- Weekly One-on-One Mindfulness Sessions with Meditation Teachers
We also provide traditional therapeutic modalities like DBT, CBT, EMDR, and Somatic Experiencing. A holistic approach to therapy has been shown to help those dealing with trauma find hope and learn healthy ways to address their issues.
Benefits of Mindfulness
An ongoing mindfulness practice helps those struggling with anxiety or depression live a more positive life. Some of the benefits of mindfulness include:
- Improved Sense of Self-Worth
- Better Relationships with Others
- Increased School Performance
- Better Understanding and Control of Response to Stress
The adventure therapy component of our program builds upon the skills students are learning in mindfulness and traditional therapies by allowing them to test these skills in real world situations. This could include hiking the beautiful Colorado mountains, skiing, white water rafting, or rock climbing. By putting students in a new element, they have opportunities to work on their challenges outside of campus.
Your teen will develop skills to better handle stressful situations, build trust and confidence in their abilities, and actively work through negative thought patterns in the moment. Adventure therapy can spark new interests to keep your teen healthy and active.
