Sam Sokyo Randall
Sokyo (she/her) has practiced meditation for over 25 years and is a senior Practice Leader in the White Plum Zen lineage with the Eon Zen Center in Boulder, Colorado. As a Certified Recovery Coach and Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness Instructor with lived experience in recovery herself, Sokyo brings a unique depth and breadth of experience to our meditation program. She leads weekly meditation groups with our students as well as providing individual meditation instruction and mentoring for developing mindfulness in everyday life.
Originally trained as an architect and educator, Sokyo is passionate about helping people learn, heal, create and connect with each other and has extensive experience in creative programming, community building, and youth/young-adult mentoring.
Sokyo currently serves on the board of directors for Zen Peacemakers International, a worldwide movement of meditation practitioners who engage in social action as a path of awakening and service. She is also a member of GreenFaith, a global interfaith climate and environmental justice coalition and former executive director of the Arbor Institute, a creative incubator in Boulder, Colorado that combines art, ecology, and contemplative practice.
She has lived in Colorado since 2007 after transplanting from Austin, Texas. When not sitting on the cushion, she loves backpacking in the wilderness and practicing sumi ink enso painting — a practice of body, breath, and mind intimately conveyed through brush, ink, and paper.
